"KGF Chapter 1" is an Indian Kannada-language film directed by Prashanth Neel. The movie, released in 2018, is set in the 1970s and follows the rise of a young man named Raja Krishnappa Bairya, also known as Rocky, played by Yash.
The story begins with Rocky's birth into poverty in a poor village in Karnataka. His mother, on her deathbed, urges him to become a wealthy and powerful man. Driven by her words, Rocky moves to Bombay (now Mumbai) and becomes a ruthless and ambitious gangster.
Meanwhile, the narrative shifts to the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), a gold mine in Karnataka controlled by the tyrannical Suryavardhan and his ruthless son Garuda. The mine is notorious for its harsh conditions and the exploitation of labourers. Suryavardhan’s death sparks a power struggle, and Garuda takes over, ruling with an iron fist.
Rocky is hired by a local Mumbai don, Shetty, to kill Garuda and take control of KGF. He travels to the gold mines under the guise of a worker, experiencing firsthand the brutal realities of the place. Rocky's journey from being an ambitious gangster in Mumbai to becoming a messianic figure for the enslaved miners forms the crux of the film.
As Rocky rises within the ranks of the mine workers, he earns their trust and plans to assassinate Garuda. The film culminates in a fierce battle where Rocky manages to kill Garuda, setting the stage for him to become the new ruler of KGF.
"KGF Chapter 1" ends with a cliffhanger, promising more action and drama in the sequel, "KGF Chapter 2." The movie is renowned for its gripping storyline, intense action sequences, and Yash's powerful performance as Rocky.
